Plumber rescued from sewer line after 13 hours

According to Oakland Fire Battalion Chief Lisa Baker, Esparza had fallen into the sewer line on Tuesday in the 2300 Block of 21st Avenue, East Oakland around 1pm where he sunk approximately 15-feet below street level and remained stuck in the 2ft by 3ft space until he was finally pulled to safety.

During the rescue Esparza remained in good spirits first responders said. His vital signs were monitored throughout the ordeal and he remained conscious and talking to the team.

After being freed around 2:07 a.m. Esparza was taken to Highland Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

He is said to be in good spirits and grateful to the rescuers who helped him to safety.
